Old Dartmouth’s Revolution Story

April 15, 2026 by Staff Writer

In Our Own Words: Old Dartmouth’s Revolutionary Story, 2 PM Saturday April 18, Westport Public Library, 408 Old County Road, Westport MA

“All politics is local” including the American Revolution! What was the experience of the Westport/Dartmouth community during the Revolutionary War?

A recent project to transcribe the town meeting records from the Revolutionary War-era has revealed a unique story of ordinary citizens responding to challenges of war – forming committees to tackle price control, proposing amendments to the draft Constitution, boycotting tea and navigating suspicions of “Those People called Quakers.” Local historians will present perspectives on the revolutionary story of Westport/Dartmouth. Town records can be accessed at www.wpthistory.org. Suggested donation $5.
