During a training exercise on 5/30/19 at New Bedford Regional Airport, emergency officials, including police and fire departments from around the region, simulated the crash of an ERJ145 type plane. They used two SRTA buses as the plane’s fuselage, and 40 students from New Bedford Vocational’s Legal and Protective Services class simulated victims. It was the first drill of this type in 25 years. The airport is upgrading its status from a General Aviation Airport to a 139 Commercial Airport which requires this type of exercise once every three years. Photos by Glenn C. Silva.
