Malcolm Hathaway, Jr.
Reidsville, N.C. — Malcolm R. Hathaway Jr., 89, formerly of Fairhaven, MA, died on Aug. 24, 2022. He was the husband of Patricia (Racette) Hathaway. They were married 68 years.
He was born in the “little red house” on Sconticut Neck, Fairhaven, son of the late Helen (Stevens) and Malcolm Reed Hathaway Sr. During his teens he helped his father develop the Wolf Island Cranberry Bogs in Rochester, MA.
After graduating from Fairhaven High School in 1950, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he met his wife-to-be. After discharge, he became an engineer in the pulp and paper industry for more than 40 years. His work took him all over the world.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, three daughters, 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Brad Hathaway of Mattapoisett, MA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Mattapoisett Land Trust.
