Leslie Marion (Jones) Maguire
Leslie Marion (Jones) Maguire, 74, of Fairhaven, MA, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, April 28, 2023, surrounded by her children. She was predeceased by her son, Terrence A. (1989), and her husband, Edward J. (1992). She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Born in Medford, MA, Leslie was the daughter of the late Albert C. and Marjorie E. (Light) Jones. She was a remarkable woman with a passion for life and learning and a deep devotion for family. As a young woman, Leslie was a gifted athlete, excelling in four sports at Stoneham High School. She graduated in 1966 and went on to attend Tufts University, where she studied French at the Jackson College for Women. During her time at Tufts, she was reacquainted with her high school classmate, and inevitable soulmate, Edward Maguire, and later married him on August 29, 1970, in Medford, MA.
After settling briefly in Rochester, NY, and Cincinnati, OH, Leslie and Edward eventually settled in Morris Plains and then Randolph, NJ, where they raised their four children: Derek, Terrence, Ryan and Shannon. Leslie was a true renaissance woman, working as a jewelry designer, real estate agent, and tax accountant. Upon losing her husband, Leslie went back to work full-time as a French and Technology teacher at The Peck School in Morristown, NJ, where she was recognized for her unyielding dedication to her students. A lifetime learner herself, Leslie received her Masters of Education and Technology in 2006 from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA.
After retiring from teaching in 2013, Leslie moved to Fairhaven, MA, to be closer to her parents and family. Leslie enjoyed reading, sewing, playing bridge, all things French, woodworking, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, needle-pointing college logo pillows, cheering on the Bruins and Patriots, and enjoying sunsets on West Island. She will be most remembered for her inquisitive mind and unwavering love for her family.
Leslie is survived by her children, Derek and his wife Megan, who reside in Hingham, MA, with their children Quinn, Declan, Ryan and Terrence; Ryan and his wife Shannon, who reside in Lake Forest, IL, with their children Claire, Margaret, Patrick and Kathleen; and Shannon and her wife Abby, who reside in Foxboro, MA, with their daughter Monti. She is also survived by her siblings, Linda McCaffrey of Fairhaven, MA; Alan Jones and his wife Robin of Rome, NY; Richard Jones and his wife Marlene of Merrimack, NH; Douglas Jones of Markt Erlbach, Germany; and her sister-in-law Paula Jones of Fairhaven, MA. Leslie will forever be missed, but her love and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her as a strong and selfless woman.
In accordance with Leslie’s wishes, a Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at 10AM on June 10, 2023, at the First Congregational Church, 34 Center Street, Fairhaven, MA.
