Charles J. Piona Jr., passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he loved on August 1, 2025.
A resident of Brockton, Canton, Onset, Fairhaven, and Boynton Beach, Florida, Charlie made a noticeable impact wherever he resided and spent time.
After serving in Vietnam as a medic, he led a life of service to his communities. He spent 11 years in the Brockton Fire Department, having reached the role of Lieutenant, and spent the following decades as a school bus driver.
Charlie enjoyed swimming and volunteering, notably at a school for special needs and a soup kitchen for the less fortunate, where he took pride in playing the role of Santa every Christmas season.
A master of endurance and undeniable personal fortitude, Charlie will be forever remembered for both his unquestionable wit and his white baseball cap…which he solely preferred because in the old westerns that he grew up watching, “the good guys wore white hats.”
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mari Piona, his twin sister Esther Rolfe, daughter Caitlin Bibeau and son Gregory Piona and his fiancé Gretchen Devine. And his absolute favorite, his grandson Bennett Bibeau. He will also be missed by his two sisters Marie and Joanne, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Charlie was predeceased by his eldest son CJ Piona.
Calling hours will be Thursday, August 7th, 2025 from 4pm to 7pm at Fairhaven Funeral Home 117 Main Street, Fairhaven, MA. Charlie will be laid to rest privately at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude’s, which Charlie donated to for over 30 years and a cause close to his heart.
Rest in peace, Charlie. You are deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
