After being postponed due to rain a week before, the third annual Bayside Bike Run benefiting Better Community Living went off without a hitch on Saturday. 5/26/18. Nearly 50 bikes joined the ride through the backroads and returned to the Bayside on Sconticut Neck Road for food and entertainment.
“So far, it’s a pretty good turnout,” said organizer Heidi Pereira as the bikes started rolling in. She pointed to her volunteer crew and credited them with the smooth roll-out.
“They literally did everything,” she said.
John Barboza joined the ride on his customized 1981 XS650 Yamaha Bobber. Bobbers are stripped of all their excess bodywork ad even the fender to make it lighter. The bike has undergone a few changes in the four years that Mr. Barboza has owned it, including a color change from black to red in the last two years, and a rebuilt engine.
Danielle Hanoud, who was on the run for the first time, also customized her Kawasaki Vulcan with a Bobber seat, but she did not go full Bobber.
“It’s got different handlebars, too,” she said.
The day’s activities included a barbecue, raffle, and music by Dave Charnely, Redneck Porch.
