NB Port Society/Seamen’s Bethel announces new president

Fred Toomey, long time President of the New Bedford Port Society, retires. During his tenure, Fred completed major renovations of the Seamen’s Bethel and Mariner’s Home resulting in the beautiful facilities of today.  

Phil Oliveira has been elected as President to continue the mission of the New Bedford Port Society, which includes the Seamen’s Bethel and Mariner’s Home.  

Phil was born in New Bedford and works at Southcoast Health as Vice President of Supply Chain Strategy and Logistics. 

He and his wife, Olivia, have two children and are lifelong residents of the Southcoast.  

“I am honored to be a part of the living history of the New Bedford Port Society, to continue the 194th year and its mission to support the fishing community of the waterfront.”
