On June 21, 2025, family and friends gathered to wish a very special 103rd birthday to Marian “Nana” Purrington of Fairhaven, who reached the milestone on 6/24.
Family traveled from five states to celebrate with Nana, who still plays Mahjong, attends church regularly, and enjoys family get togethers. She has three children, nine grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
Ms. Purrington served as a Red Cross nurse in Boston during the WWII years and married her sweetheart, Harold “Hal/Boppa” Purington, 72 years ago. Hal passed away 11 years ago and is remembered daily by Marian.
“It’s incredible to realize the vast experiences and historical milestones Marian has experienced,” wrote the family in a statement last year. “Being born in 1922, this amazing lady lived through the great depression, World War II, Women’s Rights Movements, Vietnam War, civil rights movements, the invention of cable, computers, the internet and so much more!!!!
“May we all enjoy life as much as Marian is and hold onto family with the ferocity she always has.”
