In honor of World Elephant Day, please join the Friends of Ruth and Emily for a free screening of “Love and Bananas,” a heartwarming and hopeful film that exposes the plight of Asian elephants and the people who work tirelessly to save them, Sun., 8/12, 2:30–4:30 p.m., at Co+Creative Center, 137 Union St., New Bedford.
Follow a team of extraordinary people who race against the clock to save Noi Na, a 70-year old captive Thai trekking elephant. Sangduan Lek Chailert, founder of Elephant Nature Park sanctuary in Chaing Mai, Thailand and longtime Asian elephant advocate is featured in this 77-minute documentary. Chailert has rescued over 200 trekking and logging elephants in Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia.
A panel discussion will follow with BC’s Director and Actress Ashley Bell and Zoocheck’s Gert Zagler, who assisted with the 2013 Toronto Zoo elephants’ relocation to PAWS Sanctuary in California.
