Libraries have so much more than books to offer the public these days, and the Millicent Library in Fairhaven is no exception. In addition to the thousands of titles in hard cover and paperback available for borrowing, the library can also lend ebooks, allows people to use computers, and subscribes to a number of statewide databases that people can access for free with their library card.
On Saturday, 9/22, the Friends of the Millicent Library hosted an Open House to highlight some of the many different things that people can do at the library.
The day started with tours of the Millicent, a magnificent building that was built by Fairhaven benefactor Henry Huttleston Rogers and named after his daughter, but also functions as a working library.
The day also included information on the library’s programs for children, including story times for young children and programs for teens.
Librarian Samantha Correia gave a lesson on the library’s many options for access to electronic books, records, and databases.
Did you know that if you have a Millicent Library card, you can access the vast resources of the Boston Public Library online?
The Millicent subscribes to a number of services that people can use to download ebooks and audio books.
Library users can call or go to the library and ask for help setting up their phones or other devices to get into the programs and apps, and then they will be able to use them on their own.
Those who consider themselves a little more tech savvy can visit the library website themselves and try to figure it out. Visit: http://millicentlibrary.org/all-databases/
The Millicent is located at 45 Center Street, Fairhaven, and is wheelchair accessible from the Walnut Street entrance; 508-992-5342.
