Military Talk

April 15, 2026 by Staff Writer

“Losing A Limb to Save the Body: Global Conflict During the War for American Independence’’ will be the topic of a discussion to be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 19 at the Fort Taber-Fort Rodman Military Museum and Veterans Memorial, 1000C South Rodney French Blvd., New Bedford.

The talk is the latest in a series of museum speakers whose presentations keep history alive.

The speaker will be Andrew Thomas Zwilling, Phd., associate professor at the United States Naval War College, College of Distance Education.

He will discuss how the American War of Independence became a global conflict that stretched and threatened British power from North America to the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and India.

This lecture explores how revenge, coalition warfare and maritime strategy threatened the entire British Empire, reshaped Britain’s strategy and ultimately determined the war’s outcome.

The program is free to the public. Parking is also free. Visitors are welcome to tour the museum after the presentation.
