According to organizers, the ninth annual Fire Muster hosted by the Fairhaven Fire Department had the best turnout ever.
Teams competed for trophies in a variety of events unique to firefighting, such as dry hose and wet hose events, sprinkler turn-off event, and a bucket brigade. Three district teams from Dartmouth competed, along with teams from Westport and Mattapoisett. Westport’s Fire Explorers, aka, the rookies, also competed with the big kids.
A temporary fire hydant was planted in the middle of the baseball field at Livesey Park to supply water (which actually came from a real fire hydrant and tank trucks). The Fairhaven Fire Department did not compete because they were the hosts.
On its Facebook page, the Fairhaven Firefighters Muster thanked the many volunteers who made the event possible, and those who competed.
“We want to take a minute and just say what an incredible turn out we had today! Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our event and everyone that came out to help,” they wrote. “This event would not be possible without all of the help that goes into this event.”
