Acushnet police officer Matt Melo was officially sworn in on August 24.
“Officer Melo is a veteran Officer who brings experience from his four years in Berkeley where he served as a full time officer,” writes the Acushnet Police Department on its Facebook page. “We wish Ofc. Melo a long and safe career!”
Officer Melo was hired in July and introduced to the Selectboard at their 7/13/22 meeting. He needed to go through a variety of testing and some time to learn about Acushnet’s protocols, Chief Christopher Richmond told the board in July. Officer Melo’s training was accellerated because he had already completed the full time police academy and had served as police officer in another Massachusetts municipality.
