Historians, archivists, curators, historic preservationists, collectors, and other experts will discuss a variety of topics in front of an audience at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, 18 Johnny Cake Hill, during Local History Guild conversations on New Bedford’s AHA! nights. Curator of Maritime History at the Whaling Museum, will moderate the Local History Guild conversations, which run from 6 pm to 7 pm and include a question and answer period. Trends, initiatives, projects, and issues to be discussed at future Local History Guild gatherings will run the gamut from commercial fishing to historic houses, to the latest acquisitions, collections, publications, and digital resources. The moderated conversations will take place in the Whaling Museum’s Gratia Houghton Rinehart Gallery, which houses the exhibition Energy and Enterprise: Industry and the City of New Bedford.
February 8, 6 pm: Robert Harding, Ph.D., from the Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society, and Richard Gifford independent scholar from Westport will discuss The Westport and Dartmouth Milieu in the Age of Paul Cuffe.
March 8, 6 pm: Marjorie O’Toole, Director of the Little Compton Historical Society, and Jeffrey Miller, Ph.D., Director and Curator of the Mattapoisett Historical Society will discuss Common Lives in the Coastal Region: Interpretive Patterns for Historical Societies.
