The New Bedford LGBTQ Winter Film Series returns in 2021 in a new virtual format, with a slate of popular movies chosen to inspire conversation about relationships and other topics relevant to the LGBTQ community. The event is made possible by funding and support from Mass Humanities.
This year, fans are asked to watch the films prior to joining a Zoom conversation moderated by members of the Film Series. The movies are available either through online streaming platforms or on DVD, with DVDs available to check out from the New Bedford Free Public Library with a SAILS library card (call in advance to reserve).
• Sun., 2/28 at 3 p.m., Brother to Brother (2004). Directed by the critically acclaimed filmmaker Rodney Evans, the film shows the parallel lives of Perry, a Black gay man in the 21st century, and Bruce Nugent, who was part of the Harlem Renaissance.
• Sun., 3/14 at 3 p.m. Tucked (2018) is a raw, heartfelt drama about Jackie, an aging 80-year-old drag queen, and her unlikely friendship with a younger queen Faith. They both struggle with gender and, along the way, they realize how to truly be themselves.
