Trees find Common Ground in Natalie Mello
Tree translation by Lynne Mason
The Trees of Fairhaven had a meeting through the “tree root broadcasting network” and voted unanimously to endorse Natalie Mello for Fairhaven’s Select Board.
The Black Walnut said, “She cares about people and trees, and has the right balance of keen intelligence and common sense so we trust her.”
The Red and Japanese maples spoke about her invaluable experience working with Fairhaven’s departments. “So she can be effective from day one. We know she will go out on a limb for our town.”
The Black Cherry trees said, “We have witnessed her branching out, networking and respectfully listening to all viewpoints. She can work collaboratively and we need her skill set.”
Gingko trees voiced support and said, “She knows how to balance the concerns of people, the natural environment, finances and property values, and town departments. We are ‘rooting’ for her to win.”
The Dogwoods emphasized, “Mello won’t waste our time ‘barking’ up the wrong tree. She understands highly technical information and knows how to select folks for leadership, like a Town Administrator.”
The Poplar trees, of course, joined the popular vote and also endorsed Mello. They love her focus on fiscal accountability and transparency, and her work with supporting balanced budgets with non-profits.
The Pitch Pines overheard Mello tell Lynne Mason of Fairhaven, “. . .as a member of the Select Board I will support a practical healthy tree cover. I was so sad about the trees on Union Street.”
We trees record our history in our growth rings and feel a treeship with Mello for her work at the Fairhaven Historical Society. She knows the past of our town but is forward thinking.
Eastern Red Cedars pledged not to leave any leaf unturned in turning out the vote. Young people will benefit from her commitment to public school teachers. She was a school committee member earlier in her career.
The Trees promise to provide shade and fresh air to all the voters on April 7th as they head for the polls.
Respectfully, Your Town’s Trees , as told to Lynne Mason, Fairhaven
