Romano is “Ready to Serve”
Fairhaven, I am ready to serve. By the time this letter goes to print, we will be closing in on the last hours to pull papers, and the field running for Select Board will be close to set. I am asking for your vote on Monday, April 1, because I am a candidate who has done their homework.
I have attended every Select Board meeting over the last few months, and I am well caught up on the important issues both at hand, and coming down the pike. I have listened to the department head updates, I have read the packets — I am now asking for the chance to meet you and share my ideas over the next 7 weeks.
As with much of the commonwealth, Fairhaven is facing challenges with housing. Our population has remained much the same since the 1970’s. I will be supporting efforts to find opportunities for growth while preserving the character of Fairhaven, including the development of 40R multiuse overlay districts.
As we saw in 2023 with the request for an override, expenses are on the rise, and our town needs growth. Approving this overlay district will allow these property owners a unique opportunity to expand their options to bring not only new business into town, but also residential units and green space. With the 40R district approval, this puts the power in our hands to control the design standards of the property to be developed.
As budgets get tight, we need to find ways to keep Fairhaven affordable for not only our residents, but for our businesses. At the same time we need to support our staff as they work diligently to provide the best services to our town.
To ensure we are using best practices in managing our municipal finances, we recently implemented a Financial Policy Review Committee. This committee was put in place to help guide the Select Board and town management towards financial transparency and long term effective planning to create a balanced budget. I am excited to work alongside and be guided by these amazing leaders.
Now is not the time to slow down. I am committed to helping make Fairhaven the best it can be. I am promising you here today that I will do my best to assess each item that comes before the board as fairly and honestly as I possibly can. You have heard me express the need for transparency, I am ready to get started.
