Powers is Inspiration
I’m writing today in support of Stasia Powers for Selectboard. Stasia has been a friend and inspiration for 11 years. She is a person of the utmost integrity. She puts in the time, does her homework and is unafraid of taking a leadership role because she cares so deeply about Fairhaven. Stasia listens, she respects people of all backgrounds makes decisions based on what is best for all residents of this town.
As a long-time member of our amazing School Committee, Stasia has the experience to step in and get to work immediately.
We have important work in front of us. Our reputation as an employer, as a place to do business, and as a partner to developers and vendors has suffered over the last year. Stasia’s experience in recruiting and hiring top managers like principals, working with the town and developers on major infrastructure projects like school construction, renovation and improvements, and dealing with a complex budget and the nuances of short and long-term financing decisions is unparalleled. Importantly, she is experienced in handling personnel issues in a lawful and professional manner designed to avoid lawsuits and make our town and schools an attractive place to work for top professionals in the state.
Election to Select Board should not just be a popularity contest. The Selectboard has serious responsibility and can position our town for success or mire us in dysfunction and lawsuits. One of Stasia’s top priorities will be to work with the other board members to hire a professional Town Administrator. She understands that we cannot attract high caliber candidates if applicants see a Selectboard that is unprofessional and has no respect for people or the process.
Stasia appreciates that a Town Administrator is a specialized professional job that requires experience, and a deep knowledge base that includes human resources, management, municipal finance, and best practices in town administration from around the country. It is not a learn on the job position and we pay a competitive salary so we can attract the top candidates.
This is a pivotal time for our town and an election with consequences. Stasia can and will make a difference. Help Fairhaven be the best it can be by finishing the recall process and electing my friend Stasia Powers on July 26th.
