Mello is steward of taxpayer money
I am writing to endorse Natalie Mello for the Fairhaven Select Board. Everyone who has worked with Natalie knows that she is smart, articulate, thoughtful, and collegial. What fewer people know is that she is a diligent steward of the taxpayer’s money.
Natalie is the secretary of the Historical Commission, which takes care of the town’s historic buildings and other resources with a very limited budget. Natalie scrutinizes every invoice, remains up to date with the state of the budget, and asks thoughtful questions about how we spend our resources.
Natalie is also a member of the Community Preservation Committee, which has a much larger budget to fund projects in historic preservation, housing, recreation, and open space. She reads every proposal thoroughly, makes suggestions for improving projects, questions discrepancies between various drafts, and compares bids. She offers ways to reduce costs, but she also supports higher funding when that will improve the outcome.
Fairhaven, like many towns, needs at this time to be extremely careful about how we spend taxpayers’ dollars. Natalie Mello will be a voice for fiscal responsibility and wise spending on the Select Board.
