Mello Has What it Takes
It’s harder than ever to find good people who care about the Town to make the commitment to serve as a member of the Select Board. Long meetings, tough decisions and frequent criticism don’t make it an ideal volunteer opportunity. But still, we are fortunate that there are individuals in town who, year after year, continue to devote their skills and expertise to serving the Town, and our community is better for it. Such a person is Natalie Mello.
Natalie, through her work experience and previous public service, has repeatedly demonstrated she has what it takes to be an effective and highly capable leader of our community.
A successful public servant is one that listens and does their homework. Their decisions are fact-based, and votes are made in the best interests of the community. They work collaboratively with other members of the Board to reach consensus in a respectful and civil manner, even when there is disagreement. They respect the roles, professionalism and guidance of staff for their input but hold them accountable for implementing the policies and goals established by the Board. They consider both the short term and long-term view, recognizing that the decisions made during their tenure impact the future and that good governance takes time. Most of all, they recognize that they serve the community, and that residents and taxpayers deserve quality services, a great education for their children, safe roads, responsive public safety and services for our aging population.
Natalie, by virtue of her experience, love of Fairhaven and commitment to good local government checks all of these boxes.
I hope you will join me in supporting Natalie Mello for the Fairhaven Select Board.
