Local GOP Meeting Was Respectful
After reading Mr. Grossman’s letter and your published reaction to it, I accepted the Fairhaven GOP invitation to their Sept. 16 meeting. It was nothing if not respectful! It did start with a prayer and Pledge of Allegiance, and if anyone were to find it objectionable, they needn’t have accepted the invitation.
They did take objection to Mr. Grossman’s comments, particularly as he had taken advantage of their hospitality, eaten their food, and left right afterwards. Frankly, I too found it offensive behavior.
Several candidates offered their platforms, and I would have liked to question them, but given how roiled the waters had become, it risked being interpreted as two meetings in a row crashed by disrupters. A pity and missed opportunity as I would have liked to ask one of the candidates who specifically stated he was running on “Charlie Kirk’s platform” if: a) He fully understood it, and b) Whether he could tell me where, as a non-Christian, I would fit in given that Kirk’s platform espouses a Christian Nation. It might have led to a meaningful exchange, but it didn’t happen. The moment wasn’t right then and more’s the pity.
