In my 87 years, I never thought I would get the opportunity to write a letter of support for my grandson, “the candidate.” I have enjoyed being involved in many aspects of the Town, as a past President of the West Island Improvement Association, Recording Secretary of the Fairhaven Improvement Association, and a proud Red Hatter, etc. As such, I know a good leader when I see one.
Over the past 30 years of his life, Cam was lockstep with my husband, Manny Pereira, and me volunteering in Town. We spent many times together at Sunday breakfasts, Chinese auctions, Candidates Nights, FIA summer concerts, seasonal beautification efforts in the center of Town, among other activities, instilling in him a strong work ethic and a kind heart.
I know why Cam works as hard as he does — my three great-granddaughters. I once worked to make my neighborhood on West Island a better place, and Cam now works to make all of Fairhaven better.
In the past few years, the BPW has fulfilled their decades old promise to pave dirt roads (and our bay thanks them!), worked to protect our kids by adding stop signs on Causeway Road, and was a part of a town-wide team to make the bike path safer with the new traffic barrier.
I could go on and on (and for those who know me personally you know how true this is) but to simplify things, please vote Cam Durant for Select Board on July 26.
Terry Pereira, West Island, Fairhaven
