Letter No reason to support override

No Reason to Support Override

Town Meeting Members and the voters of Fairhaven, I see no reason we should support a Proposition 21/2 override.

I am a firm believer if you can read a P/L statement you can run a business and a Town. Adjustments could have and should have been made along the way to recoup any shortages with fiscally responsible decisions.

The leaders of Fairhaven had no trouble the past five years to spend spend spend. We took 800k out of surplus cash for a football field and had the departments cut 5% of their budget the same year.

Where did all the COVID money go (1.6m)??? Just as all of us have to budget and adhere to the budget or adjust for our homes and family. Government would rather just request more money than make very difficult decisions for political reasons.

Everyone can spin it to their liking but the bottom line is you take in so much you can only spend so much!!! There is plenty of money in the surplus account to cover the 450k. This will force the Selectmen to do their jobs and live within the taxes and fees the Town receives.

Stand your ground now or we will be doing this over and over in the future. Thank you in advance for listening.

Steve Riley, Fairhaven
