FGP! is Coming!
As of this fine publication’s June 16th edition the Fairhaven’s Got Pride! Second Annual Celebration is just 10 days away! After last year’s surprisingly well attended, spur of the moment event I knew that the celebration should continue to grow year to year.
After June of 2021 because of a debilitating health issue that worsened during the summer, fall and winter months I sadly came to realize that I could no longer spearhead the continuation of FGP!’s annual celebration. I reached out to folks who I hoped wanted to carry the event into 2022 and beyond.
Two extraordinarily passionate women stepped up. Kylie Bateman and Jessica Fidalgo assembled a volunteer squad and within the past 5 months have dedicated themselves to creating an event that will celebrate Fairhaven’s pride in our town’s open, inclusive and welcoming environment.
Yes, we have come a long way but we also have far to go still. Events such as FGP! bring attention to and educate not only open-minded people but also, more importantly, people who resist the acceptance of our friends and neighbors of the LGBTQ+ community.
I am so very excited that Sunday June 26th is so very close. I’m like a kid counting down to Santa’s arrival. I’m sure I will see well over double last year’s attendance of 100+ people at the Town Hall corner at 11 a.m. on Sunday June 26th!!
