Letter Fairhaven Sleeps

April 16, 2025 by Staff Writer

Fairhaven Sleeps

Voter registration statistics for Fairhaven as of 10/26/24, show: https://www.sec.state.ma.us/divisions/elections/elections-and-voting.htm

13,436 registered voters.

2.879 are registered as Democrats.

1,256 registered Republicans,

55 Libertarians

9,127 unenrolled (AKA,  Independents)

When I look at how many registered voters we have in Fairhaven and see how many voted in this past election, I then have no other way to express Fairhaven’s voting status but by saying, “Fairhaven Sleeps”.

For all those who did not vote, you really cannot complain about what does or does not get accomplished in Fairhaven.

The lack of community voter participation quite, frankly, is pathetic. When you don’t vote you surrender your sovereign power and voice, leaving elected officials to run with their own agenda. The only intervention to the possibility of any selfish agendas running rampant, being a rare few, who became the sovereign voice for the people. I have had people in this community complain to me about things happening in Fairhaven, but I find out they don’t vote, nor do they go to meetings, speak up and take action

Voting at the local level can very often be more important than voting for a president. Because your local government directly affects “You”, right where you live.

There are a lot of changes happening in Fairhaven. You need to wake up, people of Fairhaven. And get involved on some level, even if that level is just that you go out and vote for what you believe in.

People were recently elected to important decision-making positions for this town, by only approx. 2,300 voters who voted, out of 13,456 who are registered to vote. Not so challenging a run for any of the candidates, I might add. It would have been more challenging and telling, if 10,000 people voted.

Let’s hope that the people who were elected are fair and for the people, as much as they say they are.  There is nothing worse for any town than an elected official who runs out of self-ambition.

I hope Fairhaven people wake up for the next local election, and that people in this community start to care more about their community, and not just about themselves.

Most good elected officials want to hear from their constituents. It helps them to be fair to the people, when making decisions.

No one is forced to vote, but I personally consider it selfish when you don’t vote and participate in your community, at least on a voting level, for goodness’ sake.

Something I once had to learn the hard way.

I woke up after some many years ago, major changes were happening on my quiet street, that I didn’t even know about. It was a rude awakening to say the least.

Selfish ambition had entered the hearts of a few officials, and they no longer cared about the voice or peaceful life of the people, especially the ones that did not vote.
