Choose Candidates Wisely
For years, the Fairhaven Select Board has largely operated with balance and focus on the broader needs of the community. With two current members choosing not to seek re-election, voters now face decisions that could significantly shape the town’s direction moving forward.
One current Select Board member (likely the next Select Board chair), Andrew Romano, has publicly aligned himself with candidates who closely reflect his own views and approach to governance. Supporters may see this as building a unified vision; others may view it as a move away from balanced representation and bipartisan leadership.
At the same time, candidates with extensive experience serving on multiple town boards and committees are being portrayed as unqualified despite years of demonstrated public service and civic involvement. Experience matters, particularly during periods of financial strain and difficult budget decisions.
Fairhaven is currently facing financial challenges. Residents deserve thoughtful discussions about spending priorities, operational oversight, and long term fiscal responsibility. Many taxpayers are understandably concerned that raising taxes is being presented as the primary solution without considering inefficiencies or reducing unnecessary expenditures.
This election is not about personalities or political “cliques.” It is about leadership style, experience, accountability, and ensuring that all residents feel represented by their local government.
Voters should carefully evaluate each candidate’s background, qualifications, and approach to governance before heading to the polls. The future direction of Fairhaven will be determined by the choices residents make today.
