Letter #1 Draft Pick

April 30, 2025 by Staff Writer

#1 Draft Pick

With professional football’s upcoming season roaring along, there’s one aspect of the game that always concerns the owner and coaching staff, even though you never notice it on game day. Tons of time, talent, money and energy goes into deciding who will be on the team in the first place. In other words, who to pick or what decision to make when it comes to drafting the players is a critical and never-ending concern.

All sorts of assessments go into evaluating players. Scouting reports, watching tapes, conducting personal interviews and special invites to workouts name just a sample. Even with all the thoroughness known to man, there is still an element of mystery and chance that the right choice will be made. History bears this out with unexpected surprises too numerous to mention.

Even more valuable is the focus on the 1st round draft pick. The team making the first choice usually had the worst record the previous year, they’ve lost players to injuries, retirement or free agency, and the pressure that comes from the possibility of spending a fortune on a dud can send blood to a significantly high-pressure point.

Interestingly, the Bible says that each of us qualifies to be on God’s team or family and come aboard as His unmistakable # 1 draft pick. As a matter of fact, we are so loved by God that He sent His Son to redeem us from our worst records (sin), injuries, and confusing dilemmas. His guarantee comes in the condition that we simply believe and receive what He’s done and not because of anything we’ve done personally. He pulled the plug on pressure and offered us His unconditional blood sacrifice as the eternal price for our fallen condition. From God’s perspective, there is no dud involved if our heart and mind are open to His grace, and because He is always there to make things right for anyone who chooses to accept the draft to His family or team.

Friends, we can choose to celebrate today and refuse to doubt and go without. There is no better good fortune than to know God loves you and you are chosen to be part of His team or family. He’s given us evidence of His creation, a conscience, faith to believe Him, and even more remarkably…. a play book called the Bible to live an everlasting life in victory.

Congratulations, you are really chosen by Him as a #1 draft pick and in His Kingdom, there is no magic… just what matters…The Ultimate Recruiter, LOVE, or Father God Himself!
