Forget about shipping containers stuck in harbors, online snafus causing delays, or material shortages messing up factory production lines. You can get individual, locally crafted, personalized gifts at King’s Castle Designs, now open at 414 Main Street in North Fairhaven. Jessica and Jeff King have turned a pandemic pastime into a business, and held a grand opening last Saturday, 11/27/21.
KCD personalizes a variety of products on wood, slate, and ceramic tile. The business also offers experiences, with a variety of Do-It-Yourself products and classes.
Personalization can include engraving your favorite saying on a variety of products, your own special artwork on slate or wood, or….well, get creative. They’re flexible.
“We can pretty much put just about anything on,” said Ms. King. “If you have a picture of it, we can do it.”
The shop will also include a consignment area for local artists.
Ms. King said that during the COVID shutdown, she was home with her young children instead of working at her job at a preschool.
She started experimenting, found some affordable equipment, and started with little things at first, things for themselves and for friends and family.
She’s still not quite ready to go back to work full time, so she decided to open the shop. The business will hold craft times for children, ceramic painting, and classes.
“Everything is customizable,” she said.
“He makes most of the things,” Ms. King said about her husband, Jeff, a machinist by trade.
She does the designing, deciding what to buy, and the in-store activities.
In stock, ready for your last minute Christmas gift-buying, they have lots of engraved wooden signs, slate and ceramic tile coasters, and decorative tiles.
Oh, and did we mention Christmas tree ornaments?
They also have a couple of ceramic gingerbread house painting events coming up just in time for Christmas.
Visit www.kingscastledesigns.com for details, to see products, and even to order online. Or visit the store: Tues. and Thurs., 10–2; Fri., 3–7; Sat., 11–7.
