Workers are dismantling the second floor of the former Jackson’s Variety convenience store at 114 Sconticut Neck Road in Fairhaven. The store had been in operation for more than 50 years when a fire on 2/3/20 destroyed the building and nearly took the life of Colin “Jack” Jackson, who lived upstairs. He was able to escape thanks to some passersby who got him out of the building.
The family sold the building and the new owners are rehabbing the structure. According to the Fairhaven Building Department, the owner received a variance to add a third floor, and is seeking to rezone the commercial site to multi-use, which is, essentially, how it was being used in the past.
