Immigrants Assistance Center sees surge in fear

November 25, 2016 by Fairhave Neighborhood News

Dear Friends and Supporters:

Since the results of the Presidential Elections, the Immigrants’ Assistance Center, Inc. (IAC) has seen a tremendous increase in immigrants asking for information and services. Many are afraid. They are looking to us for advice on what will happen to the immigrant communities once Donald Trump takes office as President of the US, in January.

There is a tremendous fear and insecurity in the immigrant communities. They have been told that once Trump becomes president, he will be deporting the undocumented population and US born children will be forced to leave with their undocumented parents. Children in schools are afraid that their immigrant parents will be deported which is causing a lot of anxiety and uncertainty.

Students who are DACA recipients fear that President Trump will abolish the executive order that President Obama signed which allowed them temporary status. This represents a huge distraction and impairs their ability to learn.

Due to the continued increase demand of our services and the very limited budget the IAC is asking for your support during this crucial period.

Your tax-deductible donation can be made through the IAC’s website:

www.immigrantsassistancecenter.org. The IAC is a 501©(3) non profit organization.

I encourage you to forward the IAC’s appeal to your family and friends.

The center is located at 58 Crapo St., New Bedford, MA 02740.

If you have any questions or need additional information please do not hesitate to contact me at 508-996-8113; Email: info@iac1971.org

Sincerely, Helena DaSilva Hughes, Executive Director
