MassDOT is holding a public information meeting on the I-195/ Route 18 project as the project shifts to phases 3 and 4, Thurs., 11/5, 6 p.m., virtual meeting, visit: https://www.mass.gov/orgs/highway-division/events
The purpose of this meeting is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the project’s upcoming shifts to phases 3 and 4. All views and comments submitted in response to the meeting will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.
The big news is that beginning in Dec. 2026, the ramp from I-195 east to Route 18 South (Exit 26) to get to downtown Ne Bedford will be closed through the spring of 2029. During the closure, a signed detour will be in place.
The closure will allow traffic to shift over to the new I-195 westbound bridge. The existing I-195 eastbound bridge will be demolished, and then construction of the new bridge will begin.
Project inquiries may also be emailed to i195route18newbedford@ dot.state.ma.us
