The rain kept most of the vendors and many of the patrons away, but the Huttleston Marketplace in Fairhaven opened for the season on 5/20/23 with a few diehards making the best of it.
“It’s a real bummer,” said Fairhaven Office of Tourism Director Chris Richard about the weather. “The diehard regulars showed up.
This year, entertainment will be by a variety of performers with The Shepherd Center for the Performing Arts, which will be housed in the former Good Shepherd Church in North Fairhaven.
On Saturday, local performer Cal Wingate performed and was joined by Sharon and Linda, singing to a small crowd listening in the rain.
“It’s what you make of it,” said Jen Bullen, who was selling her self illustrated journaling and color books, and drove from Webster to be there.
She said everyone was “very friendly and very personable.”
It’s okay,” she said. “The music’s great.”
A couple of food vendors were there, including Dorothy Cox with ice cream, and Cyd’s Creative Kitchen with baked goods.
Once you bake for it, you have to show up to try and sell it all, said owner Cyd Ryle.
The Huttleston Marketplace runs every Saturday through September 30 (except 6/24), from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the lawn of the Fairhaven Visitors Center and Fairhaven High School, 141 Main Street, Fairhaven. The event is sponsored by the Office of Tourism, contact them at 508-979-4085, or email FairhavenTours@fairhaven-ma.gov. Visit www.fairhaventours.com
