Homecoming Day Fair/weekend
The Town of Fairhaven’s annual Homecoming Weekend will begin on Friday evening June 28, 2019 at 5:00 PM with the raising of the Big Flag at Fairhaven High School by the Class of 1969 who will be celebrating their 50 Year Reunion all weekend. Some of the highlight events of the weekend will be:
• Friday June 28th: FHS Open House from 5:00–7:00 PM, and
• All-Class Gathering at the American Legion, Main Street from 7–11 p.m.
• Saturday June 29th: Homecoming Fair in the center of Fairhaven from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• Also on Saturday, Guided Tours at Fairhaven High School at 10:00 AM and again at 12:00 noon conducted by Bob Foster ’66
• Class of 1964 55 Year Reunion at the Century House in Acushnet
• Class of 1974 45 Year Reunion at Merrill’s on the Waterfront, NB
• Sunday June 30th: All-Class Breakfast Buffet at FHS Cafeteria from 8:30–10:00 AM hosted by the Class of 1969. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased at the Euro Store at the corner of Main and Center Streets. Homecoming Day Fair

Fairhaven’s largest annual event features about 175 booths of handmade crafts and delicious foods in addition to live entertainment, an art exhibit on the west lawn of the Unitarian Church, and children’s activities, including the very popular fire engine rides. There will be tours of the high school by the FHS Alumni Association. Also at the high school property the Historical Society Museum will be open in the Academy Building.
Monday Morning Fun
Monday Morning Fun at the Visitors Center with Pirates of the Cape, Mon., 7/1, 9:00 to 11:30 a.m., program at 10:00 a.m., Fairhaven Visitors Center, 141 Main Street, Fairhaven
A fun morning for kids aged 5 to 12 and their parents or guardians on the lawn of the Visitors Center. Play old fashioned lawn games (bean bag toss, horse shoes, nine pins, frisbee, hula hoops, etc.), jump in a bounce house, get your face painted by Heart Body Arts, and more. On hot mornings, there will be sprinklers — bring a towel. Enjoy some Dorothy Cox’s “own made” ice cream, Del’s Frozen Lemonade, and bottled water.
At 10:00, Arrr, Matey! The Pirates of the Cape will be here with with lots of swashbuckling fun for all!

Car Cruise and Parade
Thurs., 7/4, starts at Fairhaven High School, 12 Huttleston Avenue, Fairhaven. Gather for flag raising 8:30 a.m., Depart 9:00 a.m.. Floats & marchers gather at Cushman Park.
Classic and antique cars and vehicles gather at Fairhaven High School for the raising of the Big Flag. They will then depart to cruise through town, ending with a ride south on Green Street to Fort Phoenix. The cruise is organized by the North Fairhaven Improvement Association. At Cushman Park a parade of floats and marchers will step off to follow the car cruise to the fort for the annual Independence Day Ceremony. The parade is organized by the Fairhaven Lions Club.

Independence Day Ceremony & Cannon Salute
Thur., 7/4, 10:00 a.m. Fort Phoenix, Fort Street, Fairhaven. At the conclusion of the Car Cruise and Parade this patriotic program will be held at historical Fort Phoenix to celebrate the founding of our nation.
The ceremony will feature a brief history of Fort Phoenix presented by Tourism Director Chris Richard. There will then be a reading of the Declaration of Independence by Charles K. Murphy Sr., chairman of the Fairhaven Board of Selectmen. The flag will be raised as the National Anthem is played.
Following the flag raising, the fort’s five 24-pound Seacoast Defense cannons will be fired over the harbor by the Fairhaven Village Militia.

Fireworks
New Bedford is the place to be this 4th of July! Mayor Jon Mitchell and the City of New Bedford, in collaboration with event sponsor Clean Uniforms and More!, are celebrating Independence Day with a fireworks spectacular on Thurs., 7/4, at 9:00pm.
New Bedford’s Fourth of July fireworks display will be staged from a barge located off State Pier in New Bedford Harbor. Spectators planning to watch the display are encouraged to park downtown. Lower Union Street (east of Water Street) will be closed to vehicle traffic and will be the best spot in the Downtown New Bedford area for pedestrians to view the fireworks display.
State Pier will NOT be accessible during the fireworks and there will be no parking on State Pier on the evening of July 4th.
In addition to the generous sponsorship of Clean Uniforms and More! of the 2019 City of New Bedford Fourth of July Fireworks Display. Tucker Roy Marine Towing & Salvage and AGM Marine Contractors will again support the event this year by providing the commercial barges.
