The New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park welcomes all to a five segment meet and greet with Hetty Howland Robinson Green, once the richest woman in America and the area’s most famous witch/ philanthropist/financial wizard.
Programs will be held at 1 pm the last Sunday of each month from May to September at the Park, 33 William Street, with free admission. The schedule follows:
• 5/29: Relatively Speaking: Meet the Green family and learn about life in Bedford Village during the whaling era. Follow the money trail as wealth seemed to have no limit.
• 6/26: The Contrary Investor: Hetty went her own way in all things including investing. Though using a strategy quite different from her peers, her way led to untold profit and amazing results
• 7/24: Friends and Foes: Certainly there were more foes than friends as the unpopular Mrs. Green battled the slings and arrows of being an unwelcome woman and often faced adversarial male financiers, journalists and others whose aim was to destroy her.
• 8/18: How to Become a Millionaire: According to Hetty, it’s a simple task. Just follow her advice and you can’t lose.
Hetty Green is re-enacted by retired teacher and long time Park volunteer, Irene Duprey-Gutierrez.
