The Buzzards Bay Coalition welcomes the community to celebrate the Acushnet River during the first Acushnet River Herring Festival on Sat., 5/14 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sawmill, 32 Mill Rd., Acushnet.
The festival is FREE and open to all, and will feature food, music, live bird demonstrations, canoeing, guided walks, and kids’ activities. The event celebrates the restoration of the Sawmill and the creation of a new public park along the shores of the Acushnet River during the annual river herring migration. Last November, the Coalition opened the Sawmill after a multi-year restoration that improved the health of the river and created a public park. At the Sawmill, visitors can walk along the river, explore the woods, look for birds, go fishing or launch a canoe or kayak. For more details visit: www. savebuzzardsbay.org/Events.
