Clemson University’s Army and Air Force ROTC units held a joint ceremony to commission 37 Second Lieutenants at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. The ceremony occurred on main campus at the newly renovated Memorial Auditorium in Tillman Hall. Twenty-two students received commissions into the U.S. Army, and 15 students received commissions into the U.S. Air Force.
Following the commissioning ceremony, the newly appointed Lieutenants participated in a Silver Dollar Salute on Clemson University’s Military Heritage Plaza above Bowman field. The ceremony marks the first salute received by the officer from an enlisted member. As a sign of mutual respect, the officer presents the enlisted member with a silver dollar.
The commissioning candidates for the May 7 ceremony include Fairhaven High School graduate, class of 2021, Gabriel Joseph Monroe of Fairhaven, who received commission into the United States Army.
