Oh, here we go again. Newsflash, people: It’s not retaliation, it’s the consequences of your own actions that you conveniently left out of the discussion (see page 3).
Mr. Oliveira is quick on Facebook to blame our new Town Administrator for taking action. The reality is that Mr. Oliveira was threatening in his behavior, so now he is barred from town hall for a couple of months. Why he is still on his boards is another matter. The message should be that any threatening behavior is not tolerated. He should be kicked off his committees, too.
Select Board chairperson Stasia Powers sent in a statement supporting our TA, but said she would not respond to recent controversy or criticism.
Well, she may feel it necessary not to address recent controversies, but I don’t.
This whole thing is just ridiculous. You all need to stop screaming about moving offices. This stuff happens every day in the real world.
I’m hearing a lot of variations on “who does she think she is” about our new TA. I’ll tell you who: She’s the damned boss, that’s who. She’s the highest paid person in the town hall, so if she wants the best office, she should get it without having to add a whole bunch of “real” reasons why.
As for removing her assistant and banishing her to the BPW, well, I’m quite sure there’s more to that story. Those of you complaining that there were no disciplinary actions, “sit-down” talks, etc., need to explain how you know that. Did you see her personnel file? Yeah, I didn’t think so. In reality, it does not matter. The job is an at-will position that requires trust, which clearly was not there.
In any case, the TA has the authority to do all that she has been doing.
You’re all letting this spiral out of control for foolishness. They’re offices, in a building that is barely functional. Honestly, if Henry Huttleston Rogers were alive today, he’d gut that stupid building and, at the very least, put a whole lot of electrical outlets in. Really. Have you tried to plug in your computer in that place? I have, and it’s stupid.
As for the counter….really? We can’t move it? EVER? It’s slated to go with the same employees who had it before. Although, if we took our emotions out of it, we’d probably throw it in the bonfire on Thanksgiving week.
Did you know that the police department used to be in town hall and had a lockup downstairs?
I wonder what excuse the naysayers used when they moved out and the public works department moved in.
I’ll bet people went to their graves lamenting the changes.
The reality is that the hallway in town hall looks just as quaint and beautiful as ever. No one, I assure you NO ONE who walks into that building for the first time is going to look at the sign for the Select Board and the sign for the Collector’s office and think: Oh my, that’s backwards!
Ugh…moving along.
One of the coffee guys died. One of my old pals, Charlie Gomes, who hung out with the guys at a variety of places, but most nights after dinner having coffee somewhere in town (see obituary on page 19).
Charlie, you were a hoot! I’ll miss you..
Until week then..see ya,
Glory to Ukraine!
Glory to the Heroes!
