Okay, this is it: THE LAST ISSUE (of the year…the year, don’t panic). We are now officially on our two-week break.
See you next year!
Meanwhile, there are still some fun events going on this holiday season, including a sleigh ride (okay, it’s a wagon pulled by a tractor) in Acushnet (see page 3), lights, toy drives, Santa appearances, and holiday concerts. You’ll have to flip through the pages, though, to find them all.
We didn’t totally ignore meeting coverage this week. (see page 4). And, although we do have a couple of serious stories for people who are dealing with tragedy this year (see pages 18 & 22), the Christmas spirit definitely dominates this issue.
Our cover story is about the Town Hall Sing-along (page 13), and opposite that you’ll find the Old-Time Holiday
Juts a tad of snow came in on Saturday, making the center of town look just glorious. The church bells were ringing out Christmas carols and people were bustling from one vendor fair to the other, stopping for a bite to eat, and just enjoying the day. The kids had a blast.
The snow did not seem to keep people away at all. It made the town center very festive and Christmas-y. Santa made an appearance, too, and that’s always a good thing.
During this time of plenty, and reckless spending, please try to take some time to remember those who are less fortunate. The food pantry is very busy this time of year. The all-volunteer group does its best to give each family that uses the pantry a special meal on the holidays. So, they can especially use the kinds of canned goods that you would use for a special meal, and they can definitely use good old-fashioned money and gift cards so they can get what they need to fill those special baskets.
Well, that’s it. No brilliant Christmas message this year, alas. Just a simple HAPPY HOLIDAYS to everyone. Whichever holiday you celebrate, from religious to New Year’s, I truly hope it goes smoothly. I hope your relatives behave, your drunk uncles don’t drive, and your gift giving and receiving are filled with wondrous surprises and no one goes bankrupt over it.
Until next year then, see you on January 4 (unless I hit the lottery).
