Alas, the end of our last Halloween hype this week. But we have LOTS of it. Besides our cover story (page 12), we’ve got the Halloween Town Hall, Halloween in the Center, and the first West Island Witch Ride. Charlie and I joined that ride — see us up there? It was lots of fun. For my little dog, too!
We have meeting coverage in here, too, of course. The Selectboard meeting is the popcorn worthy one this week. Chairperson Dan Freitas, who likes to tell us how smart he is and what a thick skin he has, left the room in a little hissy fit.
Honestly, you can’t make this stuff up.
He berated Bob Espindola, who calmly kept making his case.
The issue was the recruitment of a new Town Administrator, without a doubt the most important decision they will make. It was on the agenda, the consultant was remotely connected, and everyone fully expected that the issue would get a full and thorough discussion. But, Mr. Freitas complained, yet again, that he only got the newest version that day.
Our Town Administrator is leaving on January 7, although he could be gone sooner with vacation and sick days he may have accrued. So, like…c’mon guys, this is November. These jobs take a long time to fill if you’re going to do it right. Um…yeah, bit “if” right?
The irony is that he storms out of the room that he refuses to let us into. We have been asking to be let into the room, the press should NOT be kept out.
Mr. Rees, the TA, orignally said it was his decision, then he said he polled the board members because his decision was made based on a policy they passed. Geesh.
So, Mr. Freitas said “no,” Mr. Espindola said “yes,” and Keith Silvia did not respond.
There you have it folks, your Selectboard. Tough guy bully, reasonable guy with a brain, and guy who lost his backbone. If you find it, please give it back to him.
No winner in the presidential election yet, but the local numbers came in by press time. Looks like the buffoon might actually win again. God help us all.
