It is TIME! Time for our two-week break. WOW…I need this one.
Just in time for July 4 and associated fun stuff. See page 3 and the Happenings pages (5, 11, 22) for all kinds of other happenings in the next couple of weeks, like fireworks and tall ships and concerts and a other free stuff to do. There’s way more in surrounding towns, too, but…I crammed in as much as I could
We’ve got a brutal heat wave coming up, they say. Most towns will have cooling centers. The Senior Centers and libraries in most towns.
In New Bedford all the library branches are designated as cooling stations.
Not so in Fairhaven. Our glorious old Millicent Library building is just not equipped. So, see page 18 for how you can help them get air conditioning. C’mon, Fairhaven, we can DO this.
Last weekend was festival weekend in Fairhaven: Homecoming (see page 12) was a blast. The streets were filled, and there was a great breeze. It looked like all the vendors did well. At least it was obvious that the food vendors did.
And the very next day was Fairhaven’s Got Pride (see page 13), a bit smaller, but still lots of fun. It was an upbeat, affirming space with music and speechmaking.
And a few blocks away was the Full Bloom Festival (see page 6), with all kinds of activities for kids..
We have other news in here of course. Acushnet held its annual Town Meeting (see page 4). They took advantage of a provision in the state’s new gun law to loosen it up a bit. I am definitely pro 2nd Amendment, but I’m also open to some restrictions. But, geesh…. Massachusetts, calm down. Honestly, I don’t think this law will stay in place. Meanwhile, Acushnet said, “hold my beer,” while we take care of this.
Meanwhile, the Big Buffoon keeps getting his power expanded by the even more buffoonish Supreme Court. Dear GAWD how did they find these people? They gave Dozy Don the right to fire just about everyone. No more independent agencies. The only one they saved was the Fed, because…can ou gues? Duh…it’s about the F’G stock market. I….just…CAN’T with these people. What’s the point of a regulatory agency if the Big Buffoon can just fill it with hacks?
And, the scariest one of all: Birthright Citizenship. The court should not have even looked at this. The language of the amendment could NOT be clearer. And the history of the amendment with associated debates of the time are also very very clear what it is intended to do. And it was reaffirmed in another case. All the lower courts struck down the stupid executive order as obviously unconstitutional. But they tried anyway. Technically it was a 6-3 decision, but the beer-drinker’s concurring opinion is really a dissent in disguise.
These people do not even know what it means to be an American. It’s heartbreaking what they are doing to this country. We are no longer the gold standard for anything. Anything. Not a damned thing.
At least Birthright Citizenship is safe for now.
There’s other stuff in here, of course. Thumb through to find it all, and while you do that, be sure to notice who our advertisers are so you can tell them you saw their ads in the Neighb News.
Until the 23rd… see ya,

Glory to Ukraine!
