Well, they made it! The newest Fairhaven Alumni are out in the world (see page 12).
Graduation day is always fun. The energy from the kids, the parents, and the crowd is just fun to be around.
I don’t like to give big lectures (or even little lectures) to graduates. They are getting that from all sides. I will say one thing, though, that I think covers it all: Choose your friends carefully.
Your friends say more about you than you may know. Choose people who share your values, have your back, and will tell you if they think you are straying from the path.
Good luck, kids.
We have a little bit of meeting coverage for you (see page 4). The Planning Board finally reorganized…at its 4th meeting after the election? Or is it the fifth?
Really, the argument that the chairperson from the previous board, meaning the board that existed before the election, should run the meetings is ridiculous. But, hey, this is Fairhaven, and Mr. Carr wanted that spot, so they had to actually pay town counsel to write an opinion on it.
This, from the guy screaming about spending money on lawyers, when he’s in the middle of half of ’em.
My favorite part was saying we have to change the bylaws to clarify. The bylaws are clear enough. There should not have been any reason to use town counsel, except one man would not use common sense because he wanted to hold the gavel.
This is how it works to anyone who pays attention. There is an elected board, they choose a chair, vice chair, and clerk. Then, there is an election, creating a new board. The old board does not exist after the election. It’s gone, moot, vamoosed! The idea that you would continue to keep the old vice chair when the chair got booted out of her position by the voters, is ridiculous.
But, alas, this is Fairhaven. So, we paid Town Counsel to spend hours looking up stuff to say what we already know. Go figure.
Fairhaven lost a good one last week (see obituary on page 19). Bernie Roderick, the former superintendent of schools, died last week. I knew Bernie from newspaper business for 20+ years. I didn’t always agree with him, but he was a true public servant. Bernie had his singular focus on what he felt was best for the school department (and everyone else be damned). He was a true advocate. We had not heard much from him the last couple of years. That’s just kind of the way of the world.
In any case he will be missed, and the school departmet lost a friend. As one school committee member said: “It’s the end of an era.”
Rest peace, Bernie. You truly fought the good fight.
Ugh…barely room to rant about the Big Buffoon.
Now they’re bragging they took 1500 people from Massachusetts and charged 50 of them with crimes. Fifty. Yeah, this is so obviously saving us all from criminals, right?
The thing is, every single one of the people they grabbed has authorization to be here. They got here, applied for legal status and were going through the process. That’s how the government found them, you numbnuts. They were going to court dates, not for criminal offenses, but for civil proceedings, like, um, immigration stuff. One of those poor, unsuspecting souls was going to his citizenship test. The TEST! Do you have any idea how long it takes to get there, going through all the right steps? Of course you don’t. The promise of America is dead. And you Trumpers killed it.
There’s other stuff in here, of course. Please be sure to note who our advertisers are so you can let them know you saw their ads in the Neighb News.
Until next week then, see ya
