Summer is almost here, not that the temperature would ever give away that secret.

It’s time for Memorial Day events. Acushnet, Fairhaven and New Bedford all have events this weekend to commemorate the holiday. See page 3 for details on the two parades and other ceremonies.

So, apparently, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) showed up in Fairhaven this week. I wasn’t able to get much on it. A reader posted that they saw ICE at Fort Phoenix. The police chief said that ICE does not coordinate with them or even notify anyone that they are here. He did say, however, that the Fort’s supervisor said the men in masks with no identifying insignia, and in unmarked vehicles, told her they were ICE.

I did not hear of any arrests, or abductions.

Because abductions is actually closer to the mark, here. This is not supposed to be America, people. We are better than this, or at least we used to be.

Posts online saying get rid of ’em, if they came here illegally they have to go, etc., are just cruel. Every one of the people abducted and sent away were authorized to be in this country. This wannabe dictator you all adore just stripped away their legal status, abducted them, and sent them away.

They had no way to defend themselves in court. Some were taken mistakenly. The man dragged out of his car in New Bedford, that got national attention, finally came home after more than 60 days in custody. He was not charged with any crime.

Could you lose 60 days from your job, your life, being locked up with real criminals for no reason other than the color of your skin or the way you talk? And he was one of the lucky ones.

I’m tired of hearing…oh, I disagree with your politics but I’m still your friend. This is not politics. This is the dismantling of our democracy before our eyes.

And all of you who are okay with it have a tolerance for cruelty that I do not like in my friends.

How can you be okay with this? I don’t care how horrible they are supposed to be. They are still human beings. One immigrant commits a terrible crime, so we go after all of them?

Suppose someone who looks like you commits a crime and police just grab you up and throw you away without giving you a chance to say it was not you?

Our Homeland Security Secretary literally thinks Habeas Corpus means the exact opposite of what it is. That’s right, the person in charge of Homeland Security thinks it means the president can lock people up for no reason, when it actually means that everyone gets his or her day in court.

This administration is still sending people to foreign prisons even after the Supreme Court said not to.

How can you be okay with this? Is it because the Big Buffoon promised you a tax cut? Or because you think they’ll never come after you? Or because you just have so much hatred and bigotry in you that you can’t stand to see anyone with an accent doing well by working hard and trying to better themselves?

I do not understand. This is not what America is supposed to be about.

And, no, I won’t stop doing this. I don’t care if you are unpersuadable. I don’t care if you pull your ads, steal my papers, and try to put me out of business. Some things are more important than that.

God bless America. We need it more than ever.

Until next week then,

Glory to Ukraine!
Glory to the Heroes!
