The calendar is ready for the warm weather events, but the temperature hasn’t gotten the memo. The events, however, are on.
See page three for Huttleston Marketplace opening day on Saturday.
And the Blessing of the Bikes is on Sunday (page 3).
And….a few other things. See pages 3, 5, 6, 7 for a good variety of stuff indoors and outside.
Then, next weekend, it’s Memorial Day. So, save the date for the parade (page 5).
We have a Select Board story for you this week. See page 4 for what that board is up to. It sounds like the Commission on Disability has been busy.
Our cover story puts a spotlight on the need in our communities (page 12). The food pantries need food all year round, not just around the holidays. This food drive helps, but that food won’t last. Keep in mind there are bins at the Millicent Library and at Stop & Shop for the Shepherd’s Pantry. And there’s a food pantry at the First Congregational Church in Fairhaven. Donating to any of them will help someone who needs it.
We also had a ribbon cutting at Nasketucket Vineyard this week (page 13). Fun event, cool place. Check it out.
Acushnet’s election is Saturday (see page 14). It’s largely a ho-hum affair since there are no contested races at all. Terrible. Just terrible.
And last, but certainly not least, see page 11 to learn about Sport and Frieta, two German Shepherd siblings who are “completely bonded,” so the shelter wants to keep them together. There must be someone out there who wants a couple of Shepherds. They are fine looking, that’s for sure.
