Okay, let’s get one thing straight: This ain’t no Mr. Rogers show. You want “Highlights for Children,” go to the kids’ room in the library.
That’s not what this is.
My role in our once-great democracy isn’t to make politicians look good and play Polyanna. This is a newspaper. A real newspaper. My role is to speak truth to power, not kiss up to it.
The fact that we no longer have a real democracy, however, is another matter. Those of you still supporting that Big Buffoon in DC have moved from being followers to being collaborators in the atrocities that are happening now and are going to get worse.
It is beyond my comprehension how anyone can support our once-great country snatching people off the streets and throwing them out like trash to a two-bit dictator’s gulag. Hannibal Lecter himself (he’s real, right?) should not be in that place. And to say we can’t get them back is despicable.
We are the country that plucks our people out of the jungle from the very clutches of those who snatched them, making us the envy of the world.
Remember Jessica Buchanan? Well, that was while Barack Obama was president. Yeah, that guy. He said the U.S. will not tolerate the abduction of our people. He didn’t facilitate it.
We rescue the kidnapped. We are not the kidnappers. Not until now.
Can’t get them back. Think about that. What kind of cockamamie deal did the Stable Genius make with the ruthless dictator to our south?
If you’re still saying Germany can’t happen here, you are not paying attention. Germany is already happening here.
And the blood is not on El Salvador, it’s on us, the United States of America, the former Shining City on a Hill. No longer.
And taking people for no reason and putting them in detention centers in this country is not much better. It’s authoritarianism, and those of you making excuses for it are clearly just so sure he’ll never come after you, right? Dream on. He’ll go after anyone. How is this even possible in America?
I have been thinking often of Alexander Vindman, the whistleblower who told the world about Trump’s attempted extortion of Ukrainian President, Volodmyr Zelensky, to fabricate dirt on Biden. Vindman’s father, a Jewish man who fled the oppressive Soviet Ukraine with his family for the freedom of America, was worried about his son and the repercussions of his speaking out. The younger Vindman told his father not to worry, that he would be fine for telling the truth, because this is America.
That was a long five or six years ago.
Until next week then, see ya,
Glory to Ukraine!
Glory to the Heroes!
