That storm was fun, right? Some good white stuff, a snow day for the kids and government workers (wow, did I pick the wrong profession), a little money for the plow drivers, but quick and GONE! (See page 19.)
The Select Board was busy this week…raising fees. Okay, they had a long agenda. I’m sure they’ll be thrilled to know I focused in on the fee increases. Shellfish license from $35 to $50. Ouch. I know the town is broke, guys, but so are we. See page 4 for the other increases they voted on. More on the way.
The town is facing an even larger shortfall than last year. We’ll be writing about that in the next weeks as the Finance Committee and Select Board hold their joint budget meetings and things firm up a bit. All the fees are going up. We’ll try to stay on top of that.
Claire Carter will be turning 100 years old in just a few weeks! Pretty cool, huh? Her family is wishing her a happy birthday on page 11. Check it out.
There’s other stuff in here of course, including a couple of letters to the editor (page 14), a boat fire and a garage fire (page 12), and some Black History Month events (3, 5, 6, 7).
While you’re checking out all that, please be sure to notice who our advertisers are so you can tell them you saw their ads in the Neighb News. If you’ve been paying attention at all to national trend type stuff, you know that local news outlets are dropping like flies. And you also know how important local news outlets are. So, please support our advertisers, encourage your friends who have businesses to advertise with us; encourage businesses you frequent to advertise with us; and, if you can, donate directly yourself.
Until next week then, see ya
