Vote Keith Silvia
In the coming Fairhaven town election on April 6th this town will have a great opportunity to effect some real change in the way its governed and provide some financil responsibility in our town government.
I believe Keith Silvia’s slogan “Change is in your hands,” hit the nail right on the head. From my perspective I can’t think of a better one.
Keith is a life long resident of Fairhaven. He is a building contractor, he is from the private sector, he knows what it is to work hard and compete.
To his credit he has stepped forward at his own time and expense to serve this town as selectman and bring some accountability and control to the town’s budget and spending. In his recent ad in the Fairhaven Neighborhood News he has contrasted how the spending has increased under the present administration by comparing the budgets of the previous one to the present one.
It makes one wonder who Mr Rees is working for, he certainly hasn’t missed any opportunity to line his pockets, creates a HR position all on the taxpayers’ expense. Just about a year ago, gives himself an additional week vacation together with a big salary increase.
I would like to point out some other expenses that this town has been free and easy with: a new hook and ladder fire engine, New Bedford seems to have no problems with the old one, price $1 million; brush fire truck, I don’t think it’s ever been used, $250.000. The town has a fleet of boats. Every department has 2-3. I doubt if they’re ever used. However, I appreciate the Harbormaster’s boat. He uses it, he needs it, it’s a position with real responsibility.
Now we have a new project waiting in the wings. a new safety complex. While I am not totally against it, I am concerned it will be over done and no over sight on its expense.
I would like to conclude by saying at least 1/3 of the taxpayers of our town are senior citizens, myself included. Most of us have to live on social security. We don’t have the ability to write the checks and have someone else sign them.
