Shepherd’s Pantry Thanks Turkey Trot
On Thanksgiving morning, November 28 of this year, runners were gathered around Cushman Park to get ready to partake in the 10th annual Turkey Trot. The proceeds from this road race, after expenses, totaling over $15,000.00 that was amassed from the runners’ registrations, would eventually go to help the Shepherd’s Pantry located in Acushnet.
Although not all of the 700 registered runners ran that morning, there was still a good amount of participants that showed up and ran on a damp and cold morning. On top of that, over 3,000 pounds of non-perishable food was donated.
I would like to thank teacher Christine McFee, who organized the food drive and the students from Dartmouth High School, who together amassed over 1,500 pounds of the food collected.
And lastly, a very big thank you goes to Erin Carr and Nikki Harrington from Union Running, located in Fairhaven, for their superb organizing skills to help make this road race a success. Also, to both Eric Tavares and Rick Racine from The Greater New Bedford Track Club, for their continued dedication and hard work for making this road race a combined effort between both of these running organizations.
We, at the Shepherd’s Pantry rely on donations, year round, to help those in need. We will continue and do our very best to never turn away anyone who come looking for help.
God bless.
Gerry Payette, Director/Shepherd’s Pantry
