Fairhaven residents need to be heard at 9/21 meeting
We have lived in Fairhaven for 20 years. I am not a native but love the town as much as anyone who has lived here longer. The people of Fairhaven I have come to know are proud of their town. Only once before have I been disappointed in the way that elected and appointed officials of the town have acted.
Information that has recently become public about the actions of some of the officials has disturbed me and others that I know. Some board chairmen have announced at the beginning of their meetings that there will be no “public comment”. Then why is the meeting public? Despite the no public comment, I managed to get my point across at the September 8 [Selectboard] meeting.
Fairhaven residents need to be heard at the September 21 meeting, Here’s why.
Selectman Bob Espindola has suggested two items that could help the officials carry out their duties to the town. They have been tabled for several meetings of the Selectmen. Mr. Espindola has requested a joint meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Board of Selectmen on September 21 to bring forth these suggestions. Perhaps these items could relieve some tensions and make for better governance. They are worthy initiatives and should not be tabled again. They deserve to be on the agenda and be discussed with the public on their merits.
I am asking those who care about their town to encourage the elected and appointed officials to listen to their comments, let their voices be heard and work together for the benefit of the entire Town of Fairhaven. That is not too much to ask.
(This letter was also sent to and town officials.)
Mary Lorenzo, Fairhaven
