Mobilizing Others — In Love – To Serve
As time marches on, so do the vital needs of impoverished people in our local community. The Salvation Army and Mobile Ministries’ faithful alliance to be front line soldiers in the effort to combat and rescue many in despairing conditions deserve our applause. Their commitment to feed, clothe and help with housing those least, last, and lowest among us is noble, necessary, and heroic to say the least.
It’s not hard to imagine there are numbers of good folks in the Greater New Bedford area who are not satisfied with simply applauding the efforts of these two groups.
Compassion moves fair-minded people to help in some hands-on way. The ancient writer captures the idea in this one compelling sentence: “A city is built up by the blessing of the upright, but it is torn down by the mouth of the wicked.” (Proverbs 11:11)
For the past four years, a volunteer team called Lift-in-Love has conducted a Serve-A-Thon that’s raised a significant amount of money and made visible community improvements in benefiting these two ministries. Coming into our fifth year, we are looking to make more improvements.
Our scheduled Serve-A-Thon date for this year is Saturday, September 14, 2019. Our simple goal is to increase our fundraising and expand our community service.
We are looking for people who have a fundraising sphere of influence with friends or businesses and people to serve as a volunteer in one of our many projects. Please see our web site www.lift-in-love.org for full details as to our purpose and activities.
If you are inspired to come alongside to help, we’d like to invite you to our Lift-in-Love March Convention and Luncheon to be held at the Salvation Army, located at 619 Purchase Street in New Bedford on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 11:00 am–12:30 pm. There will be an introduction to the Ministries, a tour of the Salvation Army facility, and a Lift-in-Love presentation of this year’s Serve-A-Thon plans and opportunities.
As we noted earlier, the Salvation Army and Mobile Ministries deserve more than our applause. They need ready, willing, and able helpers.
Hopeful excitement generates when enough of us go beyond understanding that building a better country starts by adding to the value of the City or surrounding Town we live in. What do you say, Greater New Bedford? That’s where you and our team come in!
