From our readers: Geese droppings ruin beach

April 4, 2019 by Staff Writer

Geese droppings ruin beach for everyone

It’s only late March and geese droppings are, again, ruining the Ft. Phoenix Beach area. Last summer, many sunbathers could not enjoy themselves and didn’t return.

It’s outrageous that I have to look at dirty birds instead of bikinis. What happened to the right to the pursuit of happiness?! The beach is for people, not animals, altho an occasional fox is scenic. The town should be systematic about driving away the birds, not just one man, one day, with a horn. Hitchcock’s, “The Birds,” is a warning!

It should be legal to kill the geese, the ducks and also the gulls which make benches unsittable. Feeding gulls should be illegal. A bird bounty is not out of the question, perhaps $5 for geese and ducks and $1 for gulls.

They say geese taste like chicken. Barbequed gulls could make a nice, afternoon beach snack. A local chef could offer a cooking class. The ice cream truck could expand its offerings, perhaps with some fava beans and a nice chianti
